A common feature of the convertible sitting projects is to hide the mechanism that allows couches to become beds, making this function seem more like a defect rather than an advantage.
Adrien Rovero (2010) in Slash overcomes this procedure and shows a minimal sofa bed with just the essential parts: a metal structure that holds a fragmented single pad mattress that gives shape to a chair back seat or to a large double bed.

Born in Switzerland in 1981, in 2006 Adrien Rovero obtained a Master in Industrial Design at the Ecole Cantonal d’Art de Lausanne, where he still teaches, and in the same year started his own studio.
He collaborates with international brands such as Hermès, Droog Design, Dim e Campeggi.
His work is based on a precise observation of basic needs, done with imagination and innovative spirit.
Thanks to his attention to details, he is able to synthesize functionality and creativity, with simple but unexpected solutions. He has been awarded a series of prestigious prizes including D&AD Nesta product Innovation Awards in 2003 and 2004, the jury prize at the Villa Noailles in France (2006) and the Swiss federal prize in 2007.
His works have been exhibited in public collections: at the Musée National d’Art Moderne/Centre Georges Pompidou(Paris), the Grand Hornu (B) and the Mudac (Lausanne).
